The Badger Macha Success Story

FMCG Packaging Design

Here’s the short story

Ian, a passionate chef based in Christchurch, aimed to introduce Kiwis to the flavours of a little-known Mexican condiment he makes by hand known as Salsa Macha through his brand, Badger Macha (Badger is Ian’s nickname in case you were wondering) Going with a DIY approach initially, Ian sought help to give his product a more polished and professional makeover. We crafted a standout label that reflected Badger Macha's personality. This revamped label propelled Badger Macha into more retail spaces and continued growth, truly showcasing the power design has in small business growth.

The original Label

Let’s dive into the detail…

Let me share a little story about Ian, a chef based in Christchurch who's all about bringing the taste of Mexico to Kiwis right here in Christchurch. You see, Ian's got this amazing condiment he makes by hand called Salsa Macha – it's like a flavour explosion that goes with everything from your morning eggs to a cheeky scoop of ice cream. But here's the kicker: not many folks knew about it, and Ian's label game? Well, let's say it needed a serious upgrade to match the condiment contained within.

So, picture this: Ian's dreaming big, wanting to spread the Salsa Macha love far and wide. But to do that, he knew he needed a label that screamed, "Try me!" and was also geared up for growth being compliant with all major POS and supermarket labelling requirements. That's where I came in.

Chatting about his brand, Badger Macha, and the personality of the brand itself. I could tell Ian was big on integrating a badger somewhere(that’s his nickname FYI). After a few sketching sessions hashing out how I was going to make this relatively small label work with all the labelling requirements, we had a label that was as bold and flavourful as Ian's Salsa Macha itself.

Fast forward a bit, and boom! Badger Macha is suddenly popping up in bigger stores and local spots all over Christchurch. Ian's business is growing, and more and more people are getting a taste of Salsa Macha – it's a win-win all around.

So, what's the moral of Ian's story? With a little creativity and the right people behind you, even the smallest business can make some pretty decent splashes.

The Final Badger Macha Label Design

“I came to Soraya with no idea what i wanted in terms of design for my products packaging. After a couple of conversations (free of charge) she provided me with multiple options, always kept me in the loop and was completely upfront and helpful about costs. I was extremely pleased with the end result. I can't recommend Soraya highly enough.”
